He's always been pretty good at the short prologues. Won a few. Also, his ride was dry (I believe) whereas Wiggins' was in the wet.

First half of the field had drier conditions, second half had full on rain and wet roads.

The fact they managed to perform at all while Mr Murdoch was putting the boot into their team mate, Jeremy Hunt, is what impresses me most

Still a good result for Cav. And well done Geraint! Looking pretty good for Sky all round. Not seen how Froome / Porte got on - anybody?

I think if you're a GT contender in those condition, it's best to use the Cuddles approach and "try not get eliminated"

Sure, but of the GT riders who rode in the rain, they were the worst.

A few years ago, I watched Cav win Tour of Britain prologue around Crystal Palace Park. This park has a long and rich racing culture (both bikes and motors), and has got a long draggy hill in it. When I told my mate that Cav's winning time was over 60kph he burst out laughing and said "don't be stupid - that's over 40mph average!!' ... Indeed it was.
