Inner tubes

In relation to inner tube valves, do most bikes come with the Presta valves now as my old bike had the Schraeder valves and my spare inner tubes are schraeber valves but looking at the rims on my new kona i dont think these valves would fit through the rims. I assume that some rims are designed for presta valves only and if so whats the thinking behind it.
