I have a Shimano 8sp RD-MC20 rear mech, i was wondering if it would work ok with a 7sp setup, as i think the sprocket gaps are the same for 7 and 8 speed rear cassette, also with a 7 speed pod shifter, the rear mech will only move what is specified by the shifter. Am i correct in thinking it will be fine to use ?
Thanks

the "spd" of the mech has nothing to do with the it. any shimano mech will work (other than MTB 10spd). as it is the shifter that sets the shift.

Thats what i was thinking, someone is selling alivio 8 sp shifters would these work with 7 sp rear cassette if i set the limit screws to limit the movement of the mech.

    Yes, they'll work just fine.
