need a new headset!

hiya, i have the older model carrera fury and i need to buy a new headset. i am starting to get more confident doing bigger jumps and drops and my skills are getting better but i need something that is going to cope ok with quite a few rough landings while im still learning :wink:

i dont want to spend to much either, seen the fsa pig dh pro and the orbital xl2 pretty cheap and have good reviews. will these be upto the job ok? also im not that much of a wieght weenie but the xl2 is 100g lighter! so im leaning towards this if its going to last me well.

your thoughts? cheers!

    What sort of headet does the frame take? If the external cup type, then the Orbit XL2 would be my choice.

    Semi integrated as in Zero Stack? Have a look on park tools just to be sure!!!

    im pretty sure? but always worth getting a second opinion... if you wouldnt mind casting an eye over these!

    i notice there is quite a score in the top cap bit? im guessing this is just bad wear n tear?

    and then back to my original question, which is a good headset? lol seems as though these arnt as popular so not as many review etc around. thanks!

    Is a Zero Stack - but I noticed you want to replace for a stronger model? You will break your frame way before any headset!

    the 'stronger' version is only because this headset didnt seem to last long or has failed quickly. weather that is from abuse or just a bad headset (it happens with everything occasionally) and i want the next one to last!

    thanks for confirming and your suggestion :) i notice that doesnt mention a size? from looking earlier it seems there a few sizes to choose from?

    Zero Stack is Zero Stack, a specific standard, so if it says that it will fit!

    Headsets need the occasional service to keep them running sweet.

    Remember you will have to fit it though - this requires, or can require, some specialist tools.

    ok fair enough, thought i read about 46mm OD or 50mm OD but if its a standard then its a standard lol.

    i dont mind servicing them, just took the front end apart for them pics so cant be that bad to do, quite like it actually! took my forks apart saturday night and gave them a good clean and new grease just for fun really :P

    yeh a friend has some tools for this, just done a new one himself so might get to lend a hand if needed. his is the more common headset though like the fsa pig, would the tools be different?
