Ok so i've been cycling lets say full time know for about 3 years and i'm not being funny but it still kills me. I live in stoke and for those who live in stoke you will know the banks can be mad and im cycling up them every day and i dont really seem to be getting all that fitter. I'm think of getting a cheap little exercise bike so that I can train in a more controlled environment. What do you lot think.

My daily commute used to be 3 miles up a gert big hill. It never really got easier but I did get quicker!
  • Live in newcastle and commute to Keele most days and ride round stoke too, yeah I know a few killer banks round these parts

The hill up to Keele is horrible. Great fun going down it though!
  • Exercise bikes are no fun, I used to use a turbo trainer when the weather was bad but got bored with it pretty quick, I'd much rather be outside moving about.

Go up Greenbank road a few times until you're used to it. :D

Pick a lower gear and spin - too many people try to grind their way up a hill; and I have cycled through Stoke a few times: the flat bits are only the bits between the hill you just climbed and the next one.
