I am after a new Fixed Frame.

My last has come to the end of its life.
I converted it to fixed 10 years ago + it was >20 years old - so it did OK.

I want a light steel frame (oxymoron?) - going to treat myself.

I have most of the bits needed so only require frame + forks. ( for under £800)

But what to get?

BobJackson Vigorelli
Mercian Vigorelli
Condor Tempo
anything else?

I don't care about fancy lugs, It'll be a commuter with guards + 28mm tyres

any suggestions?

    Have a look at Planet-X.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

See what feather cycles can do. Some stunning frames.

they, along with a lot of other builders, will be at http://www.bespokedbristol.co.uk/Bespok ... _2012.html

I got to build a road frame with Jose & Jon at PaulusQuiros and it's lovely. Some photos of that here

  • Plenty of frame builders will do a steel fixed bike.

Have a look at the Condor and Mercian websites.
Recipe: shave legs sparingly, rub in embrocation and drizzle with freshly squeezed baby oil.
  • I have a Bob Jackson Vigorelli running 28's with mudguards.

It's tight on the fork crown clearance with 28's and guards, so you have to be careful which tyres you run - OK with Conti Gatorskins, but I suspect something like Schwalbe Marathons would rub.

Can't fault the frame, and Bob Jackson's were great to deal with - 24" - 631 frame off the peg, painted blue with a yellow head tube and yellow "barbers pole" spiral on the seat tube - exactly how I wanted it.

Try Woodrups also - I'm sure they would make a great frame for you - only potential problem is the track frame on their website shows no mudguard eyes, but I'm sure if you called them they would fit some for you at the build stage - if the other frame clearances are OK for mudguards.

Also give Brian Rourke a call.

Ummmm, he probably already has
(always a good idea to read the original post  )

FWIW, the Bob Jackson comes in a couple of hundred quid less than the others. A bit of a bargain for a proper hand made frame.
    Faster than a tent.......

Pete have you got long drop brakes - or are they a std size?
As I would want to run my favoured marathons

  • Hi Combat Wombat,
I would say the brake is "shallow" - 47mm max' from the caliper centre bolt to brake block bolt centre line. It has a Tektro R536 side pull brake caliper fitted. The brake blocks are right at the top of the vertical slots.

IRO cycles from pennsylvania. theyre having a overstock sale and you can get a reynolds fixed gear for 700 american $ fully built.

i loved my angus sooooo muuuch before it got stolen. that would have been my last bike.

unfortunately theres only one bottle and brake mount and no guides.
