Chainset and BB Advice Needed

Hi, i am building my son his first road bike and the frame is a 2007 Giant scr 3.0.
I am confident about putting everything together except the BB and Chainset.

The listing states that they can supply a BB but what do i ask for? Are there different sizes?

Also what tools would i need to complete the fitting?

    There will be different axle lengths and threading. Your Giant will be English (BSA) threaded and the axle length has been known to be recommended by the chainset supplier. You will need a torque wrench capable of left and right hand threads, the appropriate bottom bracket socket for whichever BB they recommend and an socket type allen key to do the cranks up with

    I don't know that particular chainset but my best guess would be a 110 or possibly a 113mm BB axle, on a JIS taper (what Shimano use).

    I don't think your particular chainset is listed but all the square taper chainsets are on a 110 or 111mm axle, so go with 110 and you'll be fine.

    Thorn also do short crank arms. Pricier but well made see http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/thorn-110-74 ... -prod1673/ You can run these on a 110 or even 107mm axle to form a double.

    As for BBs:
    Shimano do them - bit heavy but solid.

    Otherwise you are into the lighter stuff, such as Hope, Raceface, FSA and at the top end Royce/Phil Wood.

    See what Ebay has - you can pick up some good bargains on square tapers as many people make the change to HT2.
