sora rear mech 7 speed

My rear mech on the winter bike is knackered so looking to replace it. Can't seem to find any 7 speed shimano derailleurs anywhere though. Do they still make them? Can you use 8/9 speed rear mechs with 7 speed systems?

    Yes, any Shimano rear mech will be compatible.

    An 8 or 9sp Sora or an 8sp 2300 will do fine and be cheap enough

    I've used a 8sp Shimano LX rear mech on my 7sp mtb : as long as the shifters & cassette match, you can use any Shimano rear mech

    My winter bike has old downtube friction shifters with an old 7 speed freewheel. The Sora works just fine. The deciding factor is to use a mech that can take a wider 6/7/8 speed chain.
