Gt Sensor 4.0

Picked up my Gt yesterday and made up with it.

Its a 2011 bike so got it reduced from £1000 to £750 which i think is a bargain as it has the same frame as the 2.7 grand sensor 1 but obviously my spec is a lot lower.
It has a suntour Raidon fork which has decent reviews for the money and x fusion rear shock which should do me for a while as i understand these bikes dont suffer from too much peddle bob anyway.

Im going to upgrade the Alivio spec as things wear out.

Although im going to upgrade the crank to a slx 1 soon for strength and weight reasons and im thinking about keeping the Maxxis mobsters for winter and getting some nobby nics for the summer which together with the slx crank should knock nearly a pound and a half off the 32 weight.

SLX cranks are good and strong, the weight saving is an added bonus.

When you get the chance strip bearings down and pack them with some quality grease as the pivots can squeak if they dry out. It will take you about 20 minutes to do and you'll just need the bottom bracket tool which you'll need to remove your existing bottom bracket.

Thanks craig im gonna have a look at the bearings when i get a chance on the new i drive s apparenly they use standard aheadset bearings for ease of supply and cheapness. Took it out on the black run at llandegla today for its maiden voyage and i loved it waslike travelling on a magic carpet compared to my old giant hardtail !

Well bike was amazing round llandegla however upon cleaning the bike tuesday night noticed hydraulic fluid seeping from around the rebound adjuster and the forks had nearly seized up !

Took it back to the bike shop and they ve sent the forks off and i now have a week s weight for a new set as they wouldnt try and repair as it s a warranty issue being a new bike.
Bit worried about the longevity of these forks now although i love the suppleness etc of them though. I suppose at least for a year im covered for any more problems and can then upgrade.

Well been a while since i posted on the bike so thought id update the thread with what ive done to the sensor in the last few months.
1st thing i did was to ditch the heavy tyres and swap to nobby nic s 2.25 evo s , shaved half a pound a tyre straight away and made a difference on the hills !

I then ditched the big ring as i never used it as the bike only gets used off road plus the chain slack and added complication of adjusting gears for a triple was a pain . I put a gamut bash guard on and changed the granny and middle rings for deore as the fsa ones where wearing down alarmingly over the winter and afffecting the shifting.

Since then ive fitted some shimano brakes to replace my shit tektro draco brakes which i cadged off a mate who has an upgrade addiction and i can now 1 finger brake and actually stop which is nice !

oh and just fitted some cheap superstar lock on grips cos they look priddy and dont rotate in the rain like my old ones.

Next on the list will be some wheels off superstar stans crest rims etc for £220 when i can get it past the mrs .....

Bike at the min weighs 30 pounds once ive got the wheels that ll be it ................

A year on and ive changed a few things on the bike through normal wear and tear to lose weight and for generally being shit ie tektro brakes !

As above i changed the textro draco brakes for some deore m596 which are superb.

The rotor s where blinged up to clarks floating rotors in tarty red 203 up front and 180 out back and do a great job combined with the deore brakes of stopping my 14st bulk.

Its recently had a deore rear mech to replace the alivio that i killed.

The nobby nic evo on the back was shredded on the marin trail and a snakeskin version now sits in its place.

The newest purchase was a set of mavic crossride s off a forum member appy for £100 as new as theyd never been used. Made up with them sealed bearings so should last longer than the year i got out my previous hub and they lost a pound in weight over my old wheels.
