I have a 2010 ribble scuro rs and have a polar cs200 cadence/ speedo thingy on it which is wireless but it rarely tells me speed and is also unreliable at cadence it appears to be set up properly with the correct wheel circumference programmed in. A friend told me that it may not be working due to the carbon frame. Could this be true and does anyone know a fix?thanx!

More likely to be the distance between the sensor and the head unit being too far apart. Try adjusting their positions.

  • Tried that but the speed sensor on the front fork is less than 18" from the headset position and the cadence sensor ( on the down tube) is about30" from the headset. The cadence is actually more likely to give a reading than the speedo.I've tried moving the magnet on the wheel on loads of occasions too.

Had a similar problem with mine.

I gave the sensor / magnet and display unit a good clean due o the amount of crud on it.
Then I moved the sensor until I could only fit a tie wrap between the sensor and magnet. It's also worth noting that the polar logo on the sensor needs to be facing on the outside of the bike.

Line the magnet up with the dimple on the back of the sensor. I'm not sure if this is on all models but when the magnet passes my sensor there is a red light on the top of the sensor.

Then re teach the display unit to pair them together.

    Hopefully that helps you.

If that fails then chances are its the battery in the sensor needs replacing and only polar can do that.

Pretty sure they are sealed units that you have to replace rather than send off to Polar for service. New ones will cost you around £23

I've seen a previous post where someone managed to prise open the sensor case and replace the battery.I tried unsuccessfully. I didn't both to replace it because I'd been having the same problems as you from when the unit was new. I did send it back to Polar but they said there was nothing wrong with it in the end I binned it and got a Cat eye.

Ahh - thanks for that, didn't know. I've always thought they were "chuck away and buy new" items. If that's the case I'll have a go at DIY when they die....what could go wrong ! ;o)
