Islabike Reis 20 on reduce price

I assume it's being discontinued (shame), but CRIKEY if you want to pick yourself up a quality bargain:

    They are amazing bikes, and can be turned into a lovely single speed (freewheel) road bike with brakes. See my son standing longingly at one on my blog

    Very tempted to get one for my boy. Already a Islabikes veteran, this would be perfect for him at our local track. Sadly I can't justify it at min. Just wish they'd make adult bikes and continue this colour scheme as its much better than current crop

    Thanks for the heads-up.

    Reis 20, 24 and 26 all advertised at £225 against an original price of £400. Tempting but I suspect son would pretty soon want gears like his dad. I guess it might be possible to convert but sourcing child-size shifters might not be easy or cheap so it may be just as well to buy a Luath for £400 and be done with it unless track racing is their thing. Anyone got and better ideas for a drop-handlebar kids bike (son is wanting one for his 7th birthday but he is big for his age)?

    DecaYukon do a kids road bike & itblooked pretty decent for under £200 when I was there recently, barounted gear shifters as well which I thought was good at that price

    The CTC's mag had a review of the Luath 24 and Dawes Espoir last summer (http://www.ctc.org.uk/resources/Magazine/201109056.pdf). Not surprisingly, the Islabike is a better bike. I was talking to someone who picked up a brand new Dawes (last year's) for £280 from LBS so you could unearth a good deal. You don't get 'deals' on Islabikes but there's a very good reason for that, and I bet the Luath would be worth the extra investment (as well as the resale value).
