Hi,
I am looking for advice on sizing info before buying a long needed rockshox reverb.

I have a Trek EX8 2009 and i am a short-arse at 5ft 6' - do i need the shortest size reverb at 355mm (31.6 dia) ?
Is it common sense that small = small ?
Tried the forums but struggling to find any definitive answer.

Cheers in advance for any advice from owners / people in the know (or even short-arses with a Trek EX8 like me.. :) )

p.s. anybody knows any mega cheap offers on reverbs will be appreciated too

If you have a long seat tube (like you seem to), it's always sensible to get the longest you can get away with really. You can always put it down if it's pretty long, you can't pull it out any more if it's too short.

I'd always go for the long one, the drop is 125mm isn't it? So if you've got more than 125mm of seapost showing now (when it's in 'pedalling' position, not downhill position), you'll be fine with either on the 'too short' side of things.

Then you need to make sure that when the seatpost is in, there's nothing in the seattube that will stop it being lowered to the correct position, like bends and bottle cage bolts.

So it depends on your bike and your current setup.

Thats pretty good, I presume they're the 2011 model and don't come with any bleed kit?

Also as its from US did you end up having to pay any VAT/Import tax?

Yes it's a 2011 with bleed kit inc...also it's shipped from Israel so no import/vat issues.

Cheers guys, still a little baffled tho.

Took a few measurements to try and get my head round it.
Max depth within frame = 240mm because of suspension pivot, my current max riding height is frame to seat rails = 180mm.
Does this mean a 420mm reverb would only just fit in my frame if fully inserted to the shock pivot and give me the 180mm measurement as above. Is the reverb 420mm long with max extension and measured to the seat rail clamp ?

I think it may be a little too long now ive measured it properly, may go for the 355 or 380 as my current post is only 350mm.

Minimum exposed seatpost on a Reverb is 190mm from the top of the seat collar to the seat rails. Based on what you've measured you will need the 380mm version of which 190mm will be in the frame and 190mm exposed so your seat will be 10mm higher than it is now

    Cheers CraigXXL,
    That makes perfect sense :)

380mm is on the shopping list.

As I understand it Israel has preferential rates for duty which means you may get no duty charged, but I believe it would still be subject to 20% VAT on import. Also if it comes from an "occupied" territory, then duty applies apparently.

Whether you get away with it is another matter, and some sellers will refund VAT. Make sure it's dealt with via Royal Mail, not a courier and chances are it will slip through.
