Inability to feel pain-chopping veg is now a breeze
Weird inability to find the right words eg where,s that thing that does the slicing thing-answer,the grater.

Yep, I've noticed the trance like states and will stay away from sharp implements !!
The doc also warned me that I may have some very strange dreams !!
As for constipation, I have a warm spoon and some olive oil on stand by

I was on tramadol and liquid morphine for 7 days when in hospital when i broke my spine.. It was awesome.

Then i got changed hospitals to see a specialist, and i got put on codeine instead.. :/

I also didn't poo for 12 days.. Then it all came out at once.
  • I had Tramadol for something for a little while...made me feel quite floaty! Shame about the uncontrollable dribbling. ;-)

    Guess it beats crack tho!
  • thats so not fair.....

when i had shingles all i got was some crappy antivirals.....

didnt even get a sicknote :(

I was only given the anti virals, but phoned up the doc earlier today, told him Co-Codamol 30-500s weren't even touching the pain, so he said "Right, try these, if they don't work give me a call an I'll give you something stronger" :D

I guess I could be out of action for a while

(which is a bit of a p*sser, as I'm dying to get out on the bike !!)

  • Ive been on tramadol for past 18months! i have 50mg and 100mg tablets and im not addicted and dont suffer any side effects! to top it off i still feel lots of pain in my knees! maybe im immune to them!

I only use when the pain is to much so not over using them.
sometimes i go days without taking any

diazipam great for allowing me to sleep but again no side effects other than being relaxed enough to sleep lol

Oh and if you want tramadol or diclofenac, go to a well known country that doesnt punish riders for doping and you can buy them over the counter for aprox 3-4euro's! damn sight cheaper than here.
  • They can have very strange effects.

My dearest wife used to take them, one time she'd sleep for 36 hours the next time she would go mental at me!
Shouting, swearing, threatening to leave and take the kids!!
Sort of 'Stella in a tablet'
I had to hide them from her.

    Scary stuff,
Now when she behaves like that at least I know it's not the Tramadol!!

    Craaazzzyy!

Had my (burst) appendix out in april.. Tramadol made me sick... its not nice on an empty stomach... which added to the horrible 5 days on what must have been the most understaffed ward in the country. They thought it would be ok to make me wait 6 hours for painkillers that last 4 hours... makes sense right?

Then had an abdominal infection/collection surgically drained at the end of Novemeber (caused by the burst appendix)... they gave me a morphine pump which was nice...

..then when they took the pump away and oddly enough I was in a lot of pain! so the nurse comes in with the biggest dose of oral morphine I have seen and all I can remember is not being able to move

Well, that was an interesting night !!

I had two at about 6:30pm last night, followed by two at about 10:30pm.

Firstly, it turns out that trying to play Call of Duty whilst on the stuff isn't very successful !
Secondly, I had a night of the wierdest dreams, they were very vivid, but I was very aware that I was dreaming.
Thirdly, I'm still off my box this morning !!

It's a bit like being drunk and stoned at the same time (not that I've ever been stoned you understand  ). I wasn't going to have any this morning, but the pain is pretty nasty, so I've just had the one :?

I suspect that I may need to submit a sick note !

    +1
When I had shingles back in July, all I got was some Naproxen(sic)
However, my housemate had a stash of unused tramadol from a broken arm, so.......

Never been on it myself but did do a lot of codeine a few years ago when I had a suspected broken hip (luckily it was found innocent) found myself standing in the street having met two friends and no idea who had been talking... What I could nit understand was how many they gave me, 100 tablets! Still have loads left over.

I was given them when i hurt my back. I didnt end up taking them as i'm a man (grr), so on boxing night my mrs has toothache "ahh what are these tablets, Tramadol hey" she takes one about 40 mins later its like she's stoned

    best boxing night ever!

I'm told taking diazipam then drinking a pint of lager/ large glass of wine is another way of inducing a "head in fluffy clouds" state

I've been on some crap to treat nerve damage (RTA 3 years ago) - that gave me some right weird vivid dreams - 60mg of Amitryptyline - knocked me out though. Then came off it and was violently sick. Then put on Gabapentin (its an anti fitting drug) - OMG it was like a chemical lobotomy - felt as though someone had repeatedly punched me in the forehead - gave that a miss very quickly. No wonder I couldn't concentrate at work.

Been on 30 mg Codene and diclofenac after my shoulder op and that was OK - only just touched the pain though.
  • ah the great god tramadol. only one really bad problem for me now is that i no longer have a valid prescription for them so i can't use the ones i have in case i get pulled for one of works "random" Drug tests. would result in prescription drug abuse dismissal.
Veni Vidi cyclo I came I saw I cycled

  • Tramadol? Pah, I was doing harder than that on NYE
  • i am also on the trammywammydollywollys right now. v trippy.

got to love them apart from my least fave side effect - itchy skin ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/ouch/messageboards/F2322273?thread=5933369 ). which makes me wonder why they prescribed them for shingles!

They use them for neuropathic pain - which is what shingles is.

It's not the same sort of pain you get from chopping your leg off but a problem with the nerve - one of the most common causes being Herpes Zoster i.e. Shingles.

    I'll get me coat...
I'm left handed, if that matters.

Interesting... I have them following an operation to repair a tendon, which judging from the size of the scar falls into the "chopping your leg off" camp. Have tried to do a day's work today, during which I took 3 doses. Not my most productive day in an office.

It works for regular pain too - is just very effective for nerve pain. Regular painkillers don't do much for things like bad shingles.

  • Good information.

What do you know about (looks in cupboard) Co-dydramol and co codamol? I appear to have quite a lot of those, too.

Co-Codamnol is a Codine / Paracetamol mix. I've got a load of Co-Codamol 30/500 tablets. They're the strongest (I believe) and have 30mg of Codine and 500mg of paracetamol. They're a strong pain killer, but haven't even touched the pain from my Shingles.

Somethig I have noticed about these Tramadol, is that the pain killing effect wears off quite quickly, but the 'totally f*cked' feeling doesn't !!

I had a couple of Tramadol at about 1pm today and I'm now in considerable of pain again, I am however, a little lethargic to say the least ! Time for a couple more I think
