She has a point....... surely the kitchen would be better as its closer for when you put the cassette and chain in the dishwasher!!

Don't ask me - I currently have four bikes in the dining room so it seems a very sensible place to clean them......

I was about to ask the same. Is it okay to dishwash the chain and cassette!? Anything to be careful of aside from not putting in any pots at the same time (I imagine)?

Hehehe well it was tongue in cheek. I'd imagine the cassette would be lovely and clean. Not sure i'd risk an expensive chain first time of trying though. Should be fine so long as it is fully rinsed and properly dried and lubricated afterwards though. We're all quite happy running our chains through a similar solution in a chain cleaner after all.

I put my chain and cassette rings in a pan of degreaser and heat it up. Not had any problems yet and the cack just rinses off. The degreaser goes back into a jar for next time.

Remember, after you've washed your running gear in the dishwasher it needs to be lubed. This is simple - just leave it in the dishwasher and put a couple of tablespoons of lube in the powder draw, and there you are!

I'd be more worried about the crockery you'd wash in the dishwasher afterwards...

  • You're putting it in the wrong one.

I keep accidentally making that mistake too, I am so stupid.

I'd be more worried about the fact that she was in the dining room. When did you let her out of the kitchen?

Surely it would be better to replace the rice agent with lube, that way it gets cleaned and lubed in once cycle.
  • It I tried to get my dishwasher to clean a cassette and chain I'm sure she would tell me where I could stick them.

Chain and casette should be fine in the dishwasher - I've been putting engine cases in there for years and all is ok.

Just do it when the burd is out.
