Hello guys need a bit of help / advice if its possible

I dont know if this could be a warranty job so if it is then il try that route, Basically i let my nephew ride my Specialised Hard rock today on a cycle with me. At the end of the ride on the hill to my drive the chain came off ( i think my nephew was changing the big cog at the front from 3rd to first whilst pedalling hard up the hill rather then changing down before the hill)

So anyway the chain came off, and on closer inspection the inner smallest front cog now has 5-6 teeth maybe bent in a good few mm's compared to the rest, which means as you pedal the bike slowly on the stand i have, you can see the chain lift up and out and then drop back down as the teeth straighten back out.

Now i know for sure the gears can be taken apart as i have done this and cleaned them all up, but what i wanted to know was can they be purchased separately do you think? or is it a warranty job as the bikes only 5-6 months old

sorry for the essay just thouht id try and be clear on what the issue was

It is not a warranty job. You need a new chainring, it is sold seperately.

I don't know the prices in the UK LBS's but I know for sure that their service is more expensive than our LBS's :D

Inner chainring cogs, if replacable are only a few quid.

If its the inner front, chances are its steel. Take a pair of pliers to it.

    + some other bikes.
  • i may try the gentle tap approach to straighten it, and yes its the inner cog and can be split from the rest.

grrr lending out bikes is a pain!
