Removing forks - Marz 44TST2

Hi All,

Decided to try and remove my front forks at the weekend whilst giving the bike a bit of a service and for some reason the top cone that sits above the crown and below the spacers/stem just will not budge therefore can not get the fork off. Sprayed it with some WD40 and tried hammering the fork out but no luck! I thought it should just slip off? Tried prying off with a screw driver but started to damage it so thought better stop!

I'm a bit of a novice so any help would be great, will try and upload a bit when I get a chance. It's a GT Hardtail with a Marz 44TST2 fork .

or use more force and make sure the wheel/fork is not on the ground.

Yep, unfortunately still won't budge, properly gone at it with the rubber mallet, not sure if a bit of rust has developed in there which is preventing the ring from coming off the steerer.

Put a piece of wood on the steerer top, and clout it with a metal hammer.

Ok will give it a go with a little more ooooomph this time!

Out of interest would any one recommend a particular type of grease for the top tube/headset? Would lithium based be suitable?

Lithium can rot seals - teflon based bike grease is best.

once you have moved it a little push the fork back up to release the wedge.
