I'm going to buy my first turbo so I can ride a more often through the winter.
I intended to get the Tacx Speedmatic after reading about in CP. I can buy one in Norwich for £130. While looking on Wiggle I noticed they have a Elite Super Crono Inertial Elasto Gel trainer for £143 which according to Wiggle is 40% off which would seem a bargain. I would be gratful for comments

Bleedin' turbos - the devil's own contraption

If you want a considered opinion, try posting in the Road Buying board
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • I've got one similar to the tacx one but it's an elite one and I use it about 5 times a year. They are so booooring. In the cold months I'd rather risk an hour at minus 2 out of doors than 15 mins indoors.

The thing I've found mine most useful for is spinning at a slightly higher gear than i normally use, i've had a previous turbo where this (the fast spinning) caused a lot of noise.

The elite I've got iis far quieter. For the sake of a few extra bob I'd get the wiggle one.

momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.
  • You know its getting chilly when the what turbo threads start :P

Oh dear...am I showing my age?

Anyone else remember rollers, or for that matter Nora Batty?

Just got a trainer from Wiggle - Elite chrono gel thing (about 140 quid). I was out in temps of minus 10 last year and it was getting a bit dangerous. I've had rollers in the past but they are too much like hard work; all that concentration! They do however improve bike handling skills through a mixture of fear and extreme terror.

I've invested in a Sufferfest download to liven things up a bit. This week I have been trying to stick with Robert Gesink on the Tour de Suisse.

+1 for Sufferfest. Really didn't think I'd end up looking forward to my turbo sessions. Perhaps I'm just not doing it right!

Just spat a bit of tea out of my nose reading that: it's a perfect description of me on rollers.
