New stem and bars for a Santa Cruz Heckler
Heckler-Rider
Posts: 2
Hi,
Just wondering if anybody out there rides a Santa Cruz Heckler out on the trail?
I run a 70mm 5 degree stem with 650mm bars.
I am finding that on long trail rides I am feeling a little cramped. My Heckler is a medium and I am only 5 feet 8 inches.
I am thinking of either putting a longer stem on or wider bars. Has anybody else had the same problem? and if so, how did you fix it.
Thanks in advance

A wider bar autmatically pulls you forward somewhat - but it my feel unnatural or uncomfortable if you are narrow shouldered. I'd try an 90-100mm stem to start, these can be picked up cheaply.0

not being argumentative, but how does a wider bar pull you forward ?
ive been doing some reading up on bike geometry and how changing it effects handling etc, and have come across this comment a few times, but cant find any technical evidence to support it
only info i could find was about a wider bar making things more stable i.e. more effort to steer, given the increased distance to cover to steer versus a narrower bar
i guess if the bars were really wide, i.e. pulling you past your arms being totally locked out, but surely nobody would use bars that wide0 -
In general it tends to move your chest further forward, though some may adjust the lock in their elbows to compensate. Very well explained here:

I think the effect can be quite subtle - however may be a reason why I don't like wide bars on my steep and long Zaskar.0
