I notice pre-registration has expired but the site states that 'on the day sign up is welcomed'. How does this work as the ride is strictly limited to 750 riders?

My mate says he's registered us both, so its all academic anyway. Suppose I'd best turn me legs in preperation!

Good luck with the training guys!

Have been doing 80 -100 miles a week and am slowly getting fit althought the cold I have had for the last week has not helped

Thats a good mileage per week. Its the mileage rather than the route that phases me. I'll need to get a few 50 milers under my belt before sept. Most I've ever done off-road is a few 40 milers.

Looking at the route at least half of it is on the Downslink which is an old dismantled railway track between Guildford and Shoreham. I've ridden bits of it and its quite smooth and flat. Just the North and South Downs to cross!

I am also starting to think semi slicks might be the way to go on this.

Not sure what the goings like on the route as a whole. I can vouch the Downslink section would suit hybrid tyres.

I've seen a few Youtube clips of the ride and theres some singletrack with chalky surfaces (especially South downs) The North downs can be sandy in places. Maybe someone who's ridden it could shed some light?

Hi guys, we did this last year. A mate was on a hybrid and struggled on all the more offroad sections due to a lack of grip/ and harsh ride.
I think if you can complete 40 miles offroad you should be able to do the distance here ( we did). The section between Byfleet and the downs link beyond cranleigh was probably the toughest part due to rain the week before, and a fair bit of climbing. But this is also the fun bit. The climb up thunderbarrow hill on the south downs and the descent afterwards is a real challenge after the long ride there but well worth it.
The best thing is to make sure you pace yourself and be prepared food/ drink/ spares wise.
Best of all enjoy it, and raise some cash for a great charity.

Well the route is currently very muddy between above Shere until the Greensands way. It was interesting on semi slicks

I have registered for this now! It was me being dim and looking at the 2010 registration page (but then again I didnt expect that page to still be active!)

Will make sure my bike is serviced just before the ride. I'm guilty of riding the bike until bits drop off. My bikes a year old now and still on the orginal chain thats easily done 2500 miles!
