£265 (inc delivery) for a sub 1500g wheelset. Since they are constantly out of stock I though notice of stock might be appreciated...

Great wheels, I paid 190 for mine last year and they're worth every penny.

I paid £180 for mine from Ribble incl delivery approx twelve months ago. Price rise of nearly 50% surely makes them appear less attractive now to first-time purchasers. I'd pay a bit more and get RS80's instead.

Fair point, I've seen some good deals on RS80s. At 265 I'd be thing about Planet-X model B's instead for half the price and similar weight.

    Out of interest...

How would these two wheelsets, particularly the RS80s, compare to some 2006-era Ksyrium SSC SL wheels? I may be looking for replacements, without breaking the bank. FWIW I'm around 72kg and mainly ride hills.

You have to watch with Ksyriums, a few years ago the weight went down from 1700 to 1500g. I think it was 2007 but I'm not sure.

  • I wonder how the prolites compare to the planet x b wheelset? My B's are running a little ragged after 18 months of commuting and weekend rides. Now have another bike for commuting and i think my sl pro needs a treat :)

Someone one here once said they come from the same factory, they do look similar in detail.

ribble's website says the pro-lite rims are 27mm deep. the model b's are rumored to be unbranded kinlins at 30mm.
  • very tempted by these wheels.... but how do they compare to the Fulcrum 3's, amercan classic aero 420's and mavic ksyrium elites???
    Anyone have experience??

The Ksyriums "feel" more expensive. The spokes look incredible and I'd say the level of engineering was a bit higher overall. The bearings are larger and roll better, to be honest that's the biggest difference. They're double the price but not twice as good, that said if money were no object I'd have a set over my Braccianos.

The Model Bs and the Pro-Lites both use the same freehub body, at least (I fitted a Bracciano freehub body to my Model B Novatec hub). The Novatec hub has 4 bearings in it; the ad for the Pro-Lites says they have 5? I'd rather have fewer bearings to be honest.

The Model B rims used to be Kinlin XR280s, according to Planet X; I don't know what they are these days, though.
