I need to find somewhere nice for lunch in the peak district tomorrow, a pub with hearty meals. Not a cycling trip unfortunately so there are no bike-friendly considerations. Suggestions?

By the way, the Peak District is a hell of a big place, any idea of the general area?

I have never tried the food but anywhere that serves pints of tea is good in my book.4

Its near Chesterfield and predictably the area is gorgeous, Padley gorge (just the other side of the railway) is beautiful.

Dire IMHO, and rammed at weekends. So many better cafes in Peak District.

    Beeley

if you fancy a conservatory restaurant in a garden center then a few miles south of beeley is tall trees restaurant at the garden centre in darley dale which is actually my favourite place to eat anywhere. Fresh scones with cream and coffee or a proper meal .

  • Went to Monsal Head in the end, was very nice :) Passed quite a few of the other suggestions on my drive round there...will hopefully have the chance to visit some of them in the future.

    Glad you liked it. :D
It's a great place to stay, try to get one of the rooms with a balcony view of the valley.
Also you can then spend the evening in the Stable Bar getting ratted and not have to worry about getting home.

  • The Fox & Goose at Wigley's also worth a try - very cycle friendly. www.thefoxandgoosinn.com . If you give yourself and extra hour before lunch, you could take your bikes and do the Curbar Gap circle :) Just over 11 miles to help build your appetite!

Yeah, I did look at the unlit woodburner and comment to my friend that in the depths of winter when that is roaring away and it feels snug you probably would be very reluctant to leave.
