Video editing software to use with Gopro?

I've just picked up a Gopro HD camera and I'm assuming that in order to condense 2 hours of film into something actually watchable some sort of video editing software will be needed.

Does anyone have any tips for a simple to use programme I can get hold of? One that doesnt break the bank would be handy...

I've got an ordinary PC (not that new) rather than an Apple.

    I tried Adobe and Sony offerings, but in the end used the Windows live movie maker that cam with my pc. Afterall, it's just helmet cam footage, so you're best off with something simple to get you going. I'm pretty sure you can download it for free off the Microsoft site.

    I have Windowes Movie Maker version 5.1 on my PC - is this a recent enough version to cope with HD footage?

    WMM doesn't like MOV files AFAIK. I use VirtualDub with the MOV plug-in for the footage from my ContourHD.
    I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

    I used it with a ContourHD which produces .mov files AFAIK.

    I'm not familiar with ContourHD - is this a camera or a piece of software?

    Also, what are MOV files? Are these the typre of footage that Gopro creates?

    And, VirtualDub? A free piece of software or will I need to pay for it?

    Contour HD is another helmet cam, similar to GoPro.
    MOV files are quicktime movies. I'm not sure what the GoPro uses

    It's a freebie, been using it for years. One of the first bits of opensource software I downloaded. The MOV plug-in is needed and needs a bit of work to instal first time. you will need to get hold of some codecs for the film to be saved as otherwise you'll end up with an uncompressed video file that will be in excess of 1gb for a 10 second clip. I save my clips as AVIs

    Adobe premiere elements is very easy to use, and stable (never crashes on me)
    I just created a video from a ride at the weekend through some lovely parts of North Wales.

    Have not yet tried editing my GoPro stuff mainly because the processor in my laptop cant cope! I need to downgrade the quality to 720p apparently..
