compact bars usually offer a shorter reach as well as a shallower drop - so the answer is not as simple as your question implies...

if you never use the drops, why have you got them on the bike? Get flat bars.

i have compact drops, but i spend a lot of time in the drops.

With compact drops you may find you start riding in the drops more, before I got my Allez I was borrowing my dads orbea, same size frame at 54cm but I just couldnt ride in the drops due to the deep drop bars, but with the compacts on my Allez I cant ride for ages in the drops.

    +1 about the reach
  • If you are 100% on the hoods it begs the question: Can you reach the drops if you wanted to? A shorter stem usually makes the drops more reachable.
