Flat stage, along the coast, but there doesn't seem to be lots of wind, so it all boils down to one thing: a 250 m uphill bit in the last 500 m, of 8%. Too much for Cavendish, Farrar, etc? Perhaps an indication that Liquigas is doing the work chasing the break of the day...
Normally something for Degenkolb, Sagan, Goss, etc. Will be interesting though, as all those sprinters like Cav here to prepare for Copenhagen will have to deal with an uphill sprint there too...

Well, it won't be Goss today, as he's just abandoned :o . No crash.
Not looking good at all for Copenhagen... Renshaw, Davis and Matthews aren't in the Vuelta - who are those 9 Aussies going to ride for? Haussler?

    Pretty much.

They won't ride for Evans. They never do.

It isn't really his kind of parcours though is it?

Sutton gets it - really weird sprint Sagan and a couple of others very well placed after the hill, but just didn;t react

What an odd finish. Well done by Sutton though.

Delighted for Sutton with his first Grand Tour stage win and great for SKY too. Wiggins down on GC but there is plenty of time to make up the difference. Despite the detractors I believe SKY will have a good Tour in Spain.

He's obviously got his contract sorted and doesn't have to make an effort for two years.

    Nope.

Couple of us got Kittel I think for 3rd.

Quite a good day for me with Ciolek getting ANOTHER non-top spot podium

Had sagan thought it would be a good stage for him, as has been said didn't react. Didn't think it was far the pure sprinters today with the climb. Tomorrow looks good for cav etc.
Degenklob and kittel next season should nail this kind of finish if they work together.

Cycling News now showing 87 riders including wiggins at same time as winner. Is this correct given comments above about him losing a few seconds?

Just watching the highligts, looking at Hansen's break off the front of the group of 4 breakaways.

Man his bars are narrow! When I road raced we'd go down a size to be able to elbow our way through the bunch better, wonder if these guys do the same thing.

Or does he like to get narrow & aero for breakaways a la Obree's new TT set up.

The official site has them all on the same time too (originally they didn't). The commissaires have obviously reviewed the footage and decided there wasn't really a gap.

    Yep, what Rich has said.
+10 and +13 seconds given s.t. as the winner, after "review".
The one big loser, again as Rich has already pointed out, was Kloden.
