Riders in doncaster/ rotherham /sheffield area's

As part of my business plan im after some market research, so why not ask the people??

what shops do you use for your gear?
and what do you ride?? (I.e Downhill and or bmx, road XC, etc etc)

ive come from down south back to my home town and im absolutely sick of the lack of decent shops with proper riders owning them. furthermore extreme sports in doncaster went out of business which to me makes it even worse!

Also, anyone think of good shop names? im not poaching i already have some good ideas. but, i just want to see what other people come up with, some outside inspiration they call it i think!

All feedback is greatly appreciated!

    Specialized Secteur Sport 2010

    Don Valley Cycles, Doncaster for servicing etc

    Online for clothing etc

    I ride Road or at least try to :)

    Thanks for the replies guys, i was out drinking last night so i havent done anything untill just now! :)

    Retroman, most of the places you use are chains. is it a personal preference using those companies, or have you had a bad experience with local shops? and would you ever try using a local smaller shop?

    Rodgers, you buy clothing online. are the brands you buy not available in local shop? and would you pay that tiny bit more to try the clothing on before hand?

    Sabbath Silk Road and Bianchi Road bikes. Road miles and sportive riding mainly.

    If you're implying a dearth of good, independent bike shops I'd be inclined to agree.

    I'm now based in Doncaster but still go to Kendell's cycles in Castleford to get family owned, bike club involved, sales and servicing. I do buy clothing from there just because they're worth supporting.

    South Yorks has some good points though; Planet X bikes for example and spinning classes run by Kev Dawson at the Dome.

    Others who've been here longer than me will know the retail scene better.

    Yes but not anything like the shop it once was, Tony B no longer owns it.

    Happy 80's days looking at racks full of obscure 70's and 80's wooly jerseys, and drooling over those SSC blues and greys. :)

    Oh yes. My and my brother used to always plan our rides out of Dodworth to spin past Tony's to have a good drool. Even if it did mean being close to Hillsbrough stadium! He was a great bloke, always helpful and cheery.

    Again, another good post to add to my arsenal :). Its good to see again that people are willing to support their local shops, and further more attend clubs and events run by your local shop which is something i intend on doing as id want to part of the community like i was down south.

    im assuming then that the XC and road scene's are major round here then?

    Butterworth's might not be what it was in terms of gear, but it's still the best for parts, servicing and repairs. Even though I moved away a while back I still make a point of popping in for a chat and spend a bit of cash.

    its that friendly atmosphere that keeps you going back...and parting with your money ill bet!

    sort of service you dont get at bigger stores, you just turn into a dollar sign with bigger commercialised companies.

    Indeed, plus the quality of the service. Paul built me up a custom build that has served me well for years. Can't praise the shop highly enough!
