bike radar is parent for the cycling mags so welcome back.

the CrudCatcher is the old sandbox.

    It changed.
Someone decided it was a better idea to smoosh all of Future Publishing's bike forums into one place, and call it "bikeradar".
Then a few people went mental, and a few people ran away to other forums.
Some even left to create "the other place", which has initials quite similar to MBUK - but nobody seems to remember when to pay the rent there.

Now, they're trying to crush our wills, by taking more and more of the sandbox mentality away, and getting us to play nice, even with complete clumpnuggets.

no worries there are one or two about who you may remember but many that you will not.

also the average age of the MTB side is no longer 16 though Jay12 does bring it down a bit but is now mid to late 20s I would say but there are a few old farts on here as well.

I do remember you! But very few others I would imagine. I can't even remember what year forks I have on my bike I've been 'absent' that long

    Let me fil you in...

Bikes are pretty much the same, but went lighter. Some bikes got too light, and broke. Bikes then stuck more or less to the same weights.
Manufacturers invented new classes of marketing spiel to sell bikes.
People bought it, hook line and sinker.
There are now mountain bikes with 29" wheels - They have some advantages, and some dis-advantages, but you must be a hippy to own one (it's the law).
There are still people riding around on rigid, singlespeed bicycles, claiming them to be mountain bikes, and that nobody needs more bike than they have. They are wrong.
People still claim (incorrectly) that hardtails are better.
    Bars got wider.
    People cut their bars down.
    SPDs are better than flats.
    Flats are better than SPDs.
But Steve Peat rides DH on SPDs!!!!!
But Nathan Rennie doesn't (or didn't - I lose track)!!!!!
Orange still make the same bikes.
Orange fans are still a bit mental.
    Marzocchis are shite.
Manitous are... well, does anybody really care about Manitou anymore?

Basically, Swith the meaning of derogatory comments about "the BIG 'S'" between Shimano and SRAM occasionally, and you'll get on just fine.

It is deemed entirely good value for money when a seatpost costs over £200, and requires some knowledge of hydraulics before it can be used.

    There, I think that's everything.

    Ahem.

and what has that got to do with the brakes made by Tektro? the original 5/7 were in a different league the current stuff.

I think Nick is saying that Tektro designed the Avid Juicy brakes and the older 5 & 7 series Juicy's were far better than the shite they currently produce

nope Formula did design and (I believe) produce the original 7s and 5s. the rest was and is down to Sram and their manufacturing partner Tektro.

I also never knew that. I thought the callipers were identical across the series, with only the levers changing.

yep but the maker has a lot to do with things, also internal may have changed.

again this what I have heard over the years but I can not prove it if asked.

Yeehaa, just a couple of things you forgot:

RockShox remembered how to make forks again.
Everyone doubled their fork prices in celebration.
Lots of awful budget forks sprang up to fill the gap... at £300. :(

Nah, I've been around long enough to remember that good forks have always cost about the same. They just got cheaper for a few years is all.

Same name on there too. Shame that most of my previous posts were lost in some kind of transition at some time.

Did UKMB overlap with MBUK, or was it born from the ashes?

I was prolific on MBUK for a spell, then UKMB, but only recently recovered my BR account.

Was WhatMTB the _other_ site or did I make that up?
