Cassette Issues

I have two sets of wheels, both DDM Disc specific, one of an 8 speed Carrera Vulcan and the other of a 9 speed Carrera Kraken. I want to be able to use the Vulcan's wheelset on my Kraken so I don't have to constantly switch tires (too much hassle). Will I be able to put a new 9 speed cassette on what must be an 8 speed freewheel? Are spacers or anything needed?

Depends what you have on the front, but for road, smaller is better, no need for really low gears.I don't do smileys.
