After some thieving scrote nicked my upgraded Spesh Hardrock, I decided it was time for a proper trail bike.

After a quick look the Vitus Zircon 0.2 and Rocky Mountain UK Project, I decided on the Whyte 901.

A trip to the (magnificent) Two Wheels in Stourbridge, West Mids and it was ordered. Ready the next day. I recommend these guys highly after a poor experience at another West Mids bike shop.

Ahhh, somebody else in the area then. I'm in Pensnett myself. Just for future reference and so I know to avoid it, what bike shop was the bad one?

Redkite in Solihull, I know others have had good experiences with them, but not me. Two Wheels in Stourbridge is chocked full of good parts, and the guys there are spot on.

Thanks for thatm I've never been to Redkite so wouldn't know. I tend to use Cycles 4U Direct and Race Co Cycles but Two Wheels always have a good following. I just don't use them because of their long turn around time due to how busy they are.

Yeah I went to pick mine up yesterday at pretty much closing time, they had five people waiting for new bikes. They couldn't get them out quickly enough, but as I said, the staff were spot on and even threw in a free pair of DMR V8 pedals. Ace.

First ride today at Cannock proved a little difficult to get used to, but once I had it roughly dialled in it was very quick, accelerates hard and is very stable down hill. Fork was extremely capable and the Maxle makes a big difference to steering.

Quick update; I've finally taken some decent photos.

A few additions, including Shimano trail SPD's and RRP evil eyes mudguard and some shiny green vale caps :P
The bike is still in great condition and is standing up to Cannock's grit. It's still great fun to ride after nearly a year too, so I'll certainly be keeping it.
The only thing I've had to do is to nip up the headset a touch, as well as bleeding the brakes.

And yes, I know, the garden needs tidying :oops:
