I bought my iPad a couple of months ago and it's a fantastic piece of kit. I use it most days at work when it's quiet to browse the 'net or watch tv. I've been using it this week to watch the tour on as I'm nowhere near a TV!

I'd say you're better of spending the money on a laptop. It will do alot more for your money. The ipad is fine for using the internet or multimedia but i would want to do any actual work on one.Bikes are OK, I guess... :-)

But, once the novelty of the ipad has worn off, you're left with something ultimately of very little use - if you buy a laptop, you still actually have a laptop once that honeymoon period is over.
Unless of course, like I said, you genuinely have a purpose in mind for the ipad, in which case you don;t need to ask other whether you should get one, since it's the only thing that will do the job.0 -

I mean i found there hardly more useful than the current crop of phones, all we need is a dock for our phones for presentatiocs and woop the tablets of 3" size.0 -
One option is the Asus eeePad Transformer. It runs android 3.1 and has a clever keyboard dock option that essentially converts it into a netbook. There's better data connectivity through inclusion of a microsd card slot on the tablet and usb ports on the dock.

I've got one and used as a tablet it's great for casual web browsing or emailing. The added functionalilty of the keyboard docking station means that for wordprocessing or spreadsheets it can take the place of a conventional notebook.0 -

The missus wants an iPad more than me. i have an iphone which suits me for what I need. We already have 2 laptops, one is mine for work and the other is a bit huge, as well as a PC. PC is steam driven though.2014 Whyte T-129S0 -
ill try and dig out a comparison chart between the latest crop of tablets, shows that aside from the OS they run on there is very liitle difference in the top lot, apart from apples lack of flash support,
typically, the apple is remarkably overpriced for what it is, but due to the name its Aaaamazin'! :roll:
tablets have been around for a Long time, just never popular as they didnt have a great market share, laptops do it all and better and not a lot more, but are bigger heavier, now adays, smart phones do it all but on a smaller screen,
tablets are almost 7-10" screen smart phones without the phone bit! - in that i guess the ipads effectively a 10" ipod touch!
ive been looking at cheap ones, can get a decent 10" for £120!Timmo.

The iPad is a great bit of kit but not perfect, but what is?
It's not a PC replacement as there are just done things it can't do. If I want o upload routes to my Garmin in need to boot up the laptop. I use a laptop all day so don't wan to use one in the evening.
You find that iPad is so quick to turn on you can just pick it up and use it. No waiting for it to boot up.
It's great for watching videos on. We recentl went away and watched almost a whole series of Doctor who on a single charge.
Ok it doesn't do flash, there are no USB slots and it won't play many media formats but even with all that in mind it's still brilliant.0 -

The Apple and Android offerings are Tablets not Tablet PCs (pedantic ain't i?)
The Tablet PC as we know it is a different animal all together.
They're still a bit chunky, run on Windoze and don't offer the best battery life.
I've got a Samsung Q1 and an ASUS R2H tablet PCs in my collection, which are both en route to the recycling centre soon as they've been superseded by a NetBook
With Apple, Android and HP WebOS based Tablets hitting the high street in abundance it's all about personal choice.
People whinge about lack of USB and other connectivity on Tablets, but they are just that: Tablets = Thin, portable, light and offer good screen resolution and battery life
Now to be honest, I do use Apple kit, but have no need for an iPad and doubt I will.0 -
