Casette + Chain shopping advise.

The moment has come to replace my chain and casette in my remedy.

Firstly is there any point buying higher spec (more expencieve ones)????

Secondly any advise on where to pick up a new chain and casette cheap at the moment??

Its 9 speed Im after and a casette in 11-32

    The higher the spec, usually the lighter or better shifting the chain/cassete is.


    Expensive cassettes have aluminium spiders to save weight and more intricate teeth to aid shifting. However, some superlight cassettes wear very quickly, especially ones with alu teeth etc that you can get from some specialist shops. IMO past XT level you start to get to the point of diminishing returns. Unless you are racing or have too much cash to spend, I would say get an XT(or equivalent level sram) one.

    Expensive chains often have hollow pins and drilled/slotted/cut away teeth to make it lighter and machined edges to help shifting. Again, ones made out of silly materials etc can wear quickly or be more liable to snap. I would recommend something like a KMC X9 L, which are not too expensive, light and durable.
