Going vegan, but eating fish??

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142 ... 73028.html

Wasn't Robert Millar a vegetarian?
My brother was talking to Dennis Talbot who was a pro back in the fifties raced against Coppi, a couple of weeks ago and he was also vegetarian. Which must for been very difficult in them days?

How many of today’s peloton are vegetarian?

Maarten Tjallingii has been a veggie his whole life. That's the only one I know for sure. There are no doubt others.

He's not going to be able to use the Contador defence now unless he claims he is fed a clenbuterol filled courgette!

Would the riders eat much meat on the tour anyway?

Presuming they don't tuck into a big steak each night as it takes a while to digest and fills the space that could be used for a protein shake or super strength pasta?

They eat steaks the night before a rest day usually.

A salty Spag Bog is often used on hot days too.

A personal hero of mine is this fellow who was a vegetarian his whole life, he died at 104 years old, he was out for his morning walk and was hit by a Van. His name was Joe Rollino, he was mainly known as a Coney Island strongman, bending spikes and he was also a boxer who fought as Kid Dundee and a decorated World War II veteran.

http://www.coneyislandhistory.org/news/?p=272 Oral interview is at this website, he was totally lucid in his speech at 103,

    News articles: http://articles.nydailynews.com/2010-01 ... ple-hearts http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/12/nyreg ... onman.html

No sugar, vegetarian which he got from his Italian mother and when Vegetarian lifestyles were not that common. I'd really like to know more in depth about his diet.

Joe Rollino thought sugar was pretty bad.

http://veganbodybuilding.userboard.net/forum.htm This forum has a lot on being a vegan and though it says body building, it's more about weight lifting and it's really about being a vegan more than anything. This forum is based in England.

I could eat more fish but there is so much info out there, I'm under the impression that there is a problem with mercury if you eat too much.

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index ... 909AAso84i Some vegan/vegetarian cyclists are mentioned here.

The weightlifter, Don Dorans, was a bodybuilder but was really into cycling. http://www.sandowplus.co.uk/Competition ... Dorans.htm Before steroids were around or at least a force in body building.

Bottom line, dropping sugar seems important, this is training forum talk but I think it's true though I'm far from having it under control, sometimes I do though.
