Inspired by a mate using a new golf metaphor....

"...That's an Arthur Scargill; great strike, poor result..."

and of course the classic "Sally Gunnell; an ugly little runner"

Does anyone have others from golf, cycling or indeed any sports??

The Lescott pint- It's got a bad head on it.

Are you really saying golf is more exciting than cycling?

    On a cycling forum?

you can't call it a sport if you can participate and smoke a cigar at the same time

3 - none of the above. I can play, but choose not to as it just doesn't excite me. As for watching it...

To mix the metaphors somewhat, but my B-i-L is a second hand car dealer (but otherwise is an alright member of the human race!) They use the 'Sally Gunnell' metaphor for second hand cars.........i.e. "Not much to look at but a f**king good runner!"

I was really shocked at the number of times that Ryan Giggs got mentioned (presumably illegally) whilst getting sh@gged in public during last weekend's exhibition match. After all, the way he and all his team mates performed, they should have been allowed to remain anyonymous.

Henceforth, anyone who fails to turn up for a sporting occasion should be considered to be "having a Ryan".

    Swansea? In the premiership?

They'll go down quicker than an Italian in a penalty box.

Or, indeed, quicker than Imogen Thomas on Ryan Giggs (alledgedly!)
