i felt strangely proud of my mrs this morning, her first commute by bike instead of car.

its only just over a mile but she hasn't been on a bike since she was a nipper or done any sort of exercise for years either

It's crazy to commute 1 mile by car, really.

excellent news.. but this does beg the question: Why was she was driving rather than just walking?

Yeah, who drives a mile, you can walk it in 15 minutes.

    Good for her though! :D

All the same- well done! From small acorns giant oak trees grow! The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step!
The beatings, horsewhippings and torture will continue until performance improves to an acceptable level. This may take some time.

i would liken my Mrs to a cat. doesn't like cold or getting wet and loves the warmth

so cycling isn't ideal especially first thing in the morning, but with rising fuel costs an car parking etc its stupid not to ride

i give her a week until she is playing the game of which we must not speak....

good on your wife, i concur that driving 1 mile is ludicrous...wish i had a 1 mile commute to work.

on holiday in scotland my wife did a 25 mile bike ride, which i felt was rather impressive given it was her first time on a bicycle in nearly 6 years.

    Chapeau!

Miss EC also completed her first 'all week' commute last week, just over 100 miles in 5 days. I was impressed.

Presumably by cycling in all month she'll have saved enough money to pay for it herself.

that will likely cost you (well) over 100 quid and perhaps slightly offset the money saved by not driving?

It was a little foolish of you to take that bet on the 31st.
