In halfords so it needs to go back tomorrow because they have messed it up, I have no idea how to ride the bloody thing and it is entry level. All that aside I am very excited!!

you might want to get it checked over somewhere else....

    Which mdoel is it?
  • well tomorrow I will be taking it back and demanding a bloody discount! The bike will be great, the build was desperate - pedal sheered off whilst I was on it, thankfully going fairly slowly.

In terms of bike it isn't very exciting to the pro eye - its this one:

But it is bigger than my folder and might get me up big hills :-)

Nothing wrong with the Carerra roadbikes in my experience. OK, they have no snob value but as an entry level roadie they work fine. I've an old vanquish that I'm rather fond of.

Halfords on the other hand....no, I'm afraid that words fail me.

    Your pedal sheered off????????? wtf??????

Came loose or sheared off? I would demand a new bike if the latter.

holds hand up.... was in Halfords yesterday (needed external bottom bracket tool) and had a look at the TDF and it looked OK, was contemplating buying it and then fitting the good stuff that I've just stripped of off the CX.
  • Yes, sheered - bless them. Sorted now, new build. It will do for the bits I want it to do, the daily commute and a few longer trips out and about and it was only £300, so really rather cheap - gbsahne, if you do consider getting one order it on the site and pick it up in the shop - its £50 cheaper.

Now I just need to learn to ride the darn thing!

As I was picking up my sons bike I witnessed one of their special staff (as in special needs) trying to remove the wheel off a ladies bike to fix the puncture. After 5 minutes I just had to step in and tell him it might be easier to get the wheel out if he released the brake caliper first.

I think I might do the 6 week service myself. I had to reset up the mechanical disc brakes and I don't wnat them screwing that up

Halfords - very good value bikes, some knowledgable staff, some clueless staff.

If you can get into a Bikehut during a weekday, you'll get decent service as that's when the bike specialists tend to work. Outside of that (i.e the popular times!) you'll have a shop floor monkey setting up your new pride and joy.
