It's certainly true that those with the least capital end up doing the most work.

You are posting about capitalism not working on a forum where many members have probably spent four figure sums on bikes and equipment. Hmmn.

And we have a lifestyle that is the envy of most of the world's population.

Capitalism may be crap, but it is nowhere near as crap as the alternatives.

It works better for some than others.

Whatever political system is in place there will be winners and losers. Whoever runs the show, fact is, for most people who post on here we'll have to keep working and being taxed.

    I know it's well rubbish.

Sodding capitalism just allowed me to buy a lovely new bike I wanted, I even had a choice! And due to some cheeky bastard in the financial sector setting up a company to supply credit I don't even have to pay for it all at once. And get this, they won't even allow me to pay interest on the loan! 0%, takes the pi55 doesn't it?

But seriously, capitalism works right up until the point people get greedy. It's greed and corruption that's more the problem.

Proves my point. Lazy, idle socialists.

Do not discuss. Aggieboy's comment should have been the end of this one!

Materialism, greed and selfishness aren't as bad as the insanity.
Capitalism for me, thank you very much.

Co operative, beneficial and peacful anarchy is surely the way to go? Why do we need power hungry socialist/capitalist/communist/liberal dictators telling what to do for their own gain? If we work to look after the weak, care for our own and better the world for all, banish invididual greed then the world would be a far better place.

Oh and ban all organised religion.

    Totally agree.

trouble is there are people like scrumple who are so afraid and riddled with insecurities that they need certain power structures to make themselves feel 'valued'. Notice in the other thread the use of the word qurantine; you quarantine things you are afraid of. Such a shame people live such cowardly lives when I bet you at heart he's probably a decent man, (or woman).

Anyway off to see man u get tonked.

    Anarchy doesn't work -

Look at nature: the fittest survive.

We are too weak as a species to self govern. Power structures would grow again, dog eat dog.

Anarchy can't work. In a power vacuum tyranny will always prevail.

Capitalism isn't working....but all other philosophies have proven to be even more flawed.

Soviet communism...well someone here was complaining that we in the UK were slaves.

    Chinese communism...well it's capitalism,

The old feudal system...erm well, it wouldn't work in an industrialised society, plus again, it's pretty much slavery

    Anarchism? Wouldn't work

Communism seems fine, until you learn about human nature, at which point it becomes clear that it doesn't work and could never be implemented, it's always going to get to the dictatorship stage and then the people in power will refuse to give it up...

Plus capitalism gives far too great a percentage of the population a comfortable life for a critical anti-capitalist movement to form. But anyway I appear to have rambled enough now..

The gap between rich and poor in this country is forever increasing. More and more are feeling disenfranchised and the this forum (I would guess) is not typical of the balance of the demograph of society in general.

It is only a matter of time!

I like how all the people who diss anarchy just say: 'it wouldn't work'. The sort of anarchy that they describe - namely, a raucous free for all - surely wouldn't. But the sort Chomsky seems to advocate might have a better chance than that version - a society in which we weren't ruled by an authority higher than ourselves (hence the anarchy - no 'arch').

And even though capitalism has failed to deliver on many things, perhaps blaming capitalism per se is a bit Marxist. The analysis finishes too abruptly. I think the problem is simply human nature. In a family, for example, capitalism is not needed because there is trust and selflessness. But people will cheat people who they don't care about in order to further their interests - hence laws that uphold contracts and property. Watch Goldenball (is that what it's called?) to see my point - people will lie and deceive each other. I think that was ultimately the problem with communism - its naive trust in human nature.

I also think we should be more sophisticated than to just look at the bankers/rich/powerful as some distinct power-structure. They are just like us - self-furthering, and weak in the face of powerful incentives.

But we also can't ignore the nature of the powerful to perpetuate their own interests.

Of capitalism: it satisfies us, and makes us happy, but it degrades and strips us of humanity. Something to be perhaps avoided - or minimized to the greatest extent. That is, I would hopefully try not to let capitalist incentives motivate me.

Of course, I would take a Chomskyite anarchy any day. Even if it meant giving up bikes - which it may need not.

A full.balanced and intelligent explanation that.
Just why not? Surely if we claim to be a higher species we should be able to organise ourselves without the need to put self serving, control freaks in charge of us. Even mother natural manages to organise itself into some sort of self order.

Unfortunately what the human race claims to be and what it actually is are at complete odds.
Total utopia is a nice idea but people will always ruin it.

See highlighted bold. We claim to be, we aren't. We're just monkeys who have evolved to have develop all kinds of fancy things.

TBH I just assumed those on this forum were intelligent enough to work out why for themselves...
