Good morning!
Whilst the cats away the mouse is doing a bit of bodging in the kitchen with his new bike
I am trying to fit a new carbon stem to my Canyon
Ive bought a Ritchey WCS carbon one to replace the regular Ritchey WCS it came with and it just wont fit, the carbon one is about 1-2mm too tight
I have even resorted to reading the manual which is where Im getting confused
I cant find specs for the fork although the headset is given as "1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inch"
My new stem is 1 1/8" which must be where Im going wrong
Buy on haste and all that
But my confusuin comes from the fact that I cant actually find a Ritchey WCS stem in 1 1/4" and as I said the difference really is 1-2mm
If it wasnt carbon Id prise it apart with a screwdriver and take it from there!!
Any ideas what Im doing wrong?
Is it possible Ritchey supply Canyon with a non standard size stem as OEM
Im baffled
Cheers!
EDIT: Dammit

But I still maintain I cant find a Ritchey in 1 1/4"

Your steerer tube is an oversized one, no amount of meddling is going to change that, you want a 1 1/4 inch stem to fit your 1 1/4 inch steerer.
Perhaps Ritchey don't sell that particular model in oversized sizes.0 -
The annoying thing is I still cant find Ritchey stems in 1 1/4 but they are factory fit at Canyon
It didnt necessarily have to be Ritchey - I just wanted to match the bars0 -
Canyon actually have an unusually sized 1.25" steerer that I think only they use! Very limited stem options...0

Ritchey WCS stems in 31.8mm (roughly 1-1/4 inch) here http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ritchey-wcs-4-a ... hite-stem/0

Vanity and impetuousness are a dangerous mix
I even bought it in person whilst sober
I cant use the strong lager fuelled internet purchase excuse0 -
If you can't get one from a UK supplier, give canyon a call as they sell them...0

Wiggle is a UK supplier0

In my experience Canyon will replace your one if it's as new, no cost.
The other option is a Syntace F119 which are fairly tricky to get hold of, but not impossible.
It is a limitation but just about workable. I don't know of any 1 1/4 carbon stems on the market. I do believe some Specialized stems are 1 1/4 but i've never seen any for sale and don't know if they're carbon. In any case, carbon stems are overbuild and heavy but that's another thread altogether.
Oh and that stem from Wiggle will not fit. The 31.8mm measurement refers to the handlebar interface not the steerer interface which will be the standard 1 1/8 not the required 1 1/4. Ritchey made the 1 1/4 stems for Canyon only.
