Was this the coolest toy ever? Anyone else have one?

Or anyone a bit more flash and had the Galaxy Cruiser instead?

I had one. Not sure it was the coolest toy ever though - basically it was an intergalatic Ford Escort. And the big one just looked a bit like the small one with an untidy extension! I was in a Lego shop recently looking for stuff for my Niece. They had boxed sets of the history of Lego Spacemen from the late 70s through to the mid 80s - they were all red or white in my time. Quite cool I thought.

  • Lego is without doubt the best "toy" ever, period.

    I hate this expression, but:
    OMG !!!!!!

Yep, I had one, it was great !!! In fact, I've still got all of my Lego somewhere, minus the instructions, boxes and the odd piece that I'm sure I ate.

There was a much smaller one as well. Like a intergalatic mini!

You're all wrong. It's all about Car Chassis 8860:

    8860-1.jpg

Though, I had that Galaxy Cruiser as well, and I'd forgotten about it. OMG also (and that's the first and probably last time I've used that expression).

A visit to my parents' attic may be in order. Or eBay. Christ. Mustn't become one of those weird collector-y people..

There are websites with PDFS of instructions online. I found most of the manuals for my Technical lego when I gave it away.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Loved Lego, had a lot of the space stuff, can't remember what exactly.

Then moved on to Technic Lego that JCB/digger was a absolute classic.

At one stage I even had one of these -

Technic Lego Robotic Control Center. Used to make cable cars that would go out of my bedroom window and down to the end of the back garden powered by the Technic electric motors.

Can't find the part number for the Space range set I had - but it's the vehicle on the bottom left - it had hinged rockets at the back and the blue little command centre would get dropped off. At least it did have until Thomas Vickery threw one of the hinge bits down the drain - wanker.

Don't remember lego like this when I was younger though...

+1. I had all the Lego technic sets from that period starting with the first big car chassis (the red one). I still have them all in boxes too at my parents house! I used to build all sorts of things from big cranes, cars, lego railway, ships, etc. I have about 40 pics my mother took of me with them.

For a real work killing session visit www.lugnet.com. The Space stuff was after my time.

About ten years ago I bought the Lego F1 car as a pressie for someone. Couldn't believe how much more complex it was and how many new custom parts there were. Much more advanced. My young nephew now has a growing collection, best toy ever :-)

Oh dear, why did you have to mention EBay? There's now a big danger of me becoming a weird-collector type person, spending all of next months wages and being fired from my current job, cos I'm supposed to be working, not looking at retro Lego sets on the interweb!

i lost an entire days work looking at lego on ebay and the internet a few months back. happy to say i diodn't spend loads.

I was back at parents house ( left home 22 years ago ) and found a load of lego instruction books. i salvaged the lego from my dads shed last year.

I had the car chassis for christmas one year. took about 2 hours to build. had shedloads of space stuff but can't find the destructions for that

If the bottom left one had the droppable space pod, then I not only had it but I can still lay my hands on most of the instructions for it as well.

As all good 23 years old do when their parents go away, I reassembled all my old kits that had been dumped in a box.

The only kits that didn't need building were the xwing and shuttle.
