Colne Valley Mountain Bike Challenge 2011

Entries are are now being encouraged for the 8th annual Colne Valley Mountain Bike Challenge, taking place this year on Sunday 8th May at 9.00am.
The course is a challenging one (as you'd expect) and consists of approx. 30 miles of local paths, tracks, bridleways and lanes around the picturesque Colne Valley area of Huddersfield - regularly featured on TV as settings for Last Of The Summer Wine and Where The Heart Is.
The cost of entry is £15 pre-booked (entry forms available at http://www.cvmbc.co.uk) and £20 on the day - although we do encourage pre-booking as it greatly assists the organisation of the event.
All participants will receive a free commemorative T-Shirt and certificate upon completion. The course will be fully marshalled throughout and will have 4 refreshment stops at designated points. There will also be a back-up vehicle available for anyone who wishes to (or is forced to!!) retire early.
Bacon Butties will be on sale beforehand at a nominal £1.00 each, but apart from these EVERYTHING ELSE refreshment wise (soup, bread, bananas, flap-jack, biscuits, coffee, tea etc etc) is FREE. Yes FREE. There is also a brilliant little pub - The Walkers Arms - situated on site, so those that wish to can partake of a pint (or two) if so desired.
So, to sum it up - it's a 30 mile challenging MTB ride, fully marshalled, fully 'catered' and absolutely FANTASTIC VALUE, with a pub on site to finish the day off as well. You won't find a better day out in this area on the 8th May. Come and give it a go - you've nothing to lose and we're absolutely certain that you'll be well looked after and have a great time.

How are the hills looking round there? There have been a few fires up Lancashire due to dry weather.
I had '10' written on my envelope. Do I get a goody bag?
What time would you recommend getting there to bag a decent spot on the start line?

The hills are looking hilly...
I think that you will get a goody bag if you had 10 on your envelope
The earlier you register the better for bagging a good starting position
I'll be there on my Cube, with a strapped up finger...
I've not ridden since I trapped the above digit, so I have no idea how much it'll throb after 30 miles.

Hi Nick - as Mr Baxter (above) says really. I'd recommend trying to arrive for 8.00ish then you'll be parked up and stress free pre-event. And you won't miss out on your goody bag either!! :P
Don't forget to come and say hello too, it's always nice to meet those that make the effort.
We've had no rain for weeks until today (
) so the trails were/are super fast at the mo! The hills never get any easier either, you just climb them quicker when you're fitter! :P

Forecast is for rain in next couple of days, so the Crudcatcher will go back on. How do the off road trails hold up when wet round there?

Trails hold up really well, it's unlikely that you'll encounter much mud or slop
We've over 170 entries already in and, with around 100 or so riders that usually turn up on the day, we anticipate a field of approaching 300.0 -
Well that was a hard day. Plenty of climbing and a couple of techie descents thrown in to keep a biker on his toes.
Pretty knackered now.

Wow streako - that's a very impressive time you posted there fella.
I'm in the process of reconciling the times at the mo, but I'm waiting on a few return calls which will hopoefully clarify some anomalies. Thanks for your patience.0 -
