Some footage from a 15quid mini-cam my girlfriend bought recently. I think I will be stealing it muchly! Hitting the Red at Glentress on monday, will hopefully get better positioning that time. Plan is to have one looking forward through forks and one looking back at my mate.

Currently using gaffa tape, any better suggestions? Camera is this one:

For £15 the quality looks great. Think I might buy one myself, thanks for the link.

how long can you record for?
  • hi ya m8,

what size memory card did you get, if you don't mind me asking, just curious as to how long you can record for on a given size such as the 4gb or if the 8gb would be better

    cheers
  • I got a 4gb card. I'm led to believe that battery wise it's about 1.5 hours of recording. Not had a chance to test that yet. Recorded the full downhill side of the Glentress red route no problem though.
  • Took loads of vids at Glentress. Sadly I once again misjudged the angle. Will stick it on the headset on wed. None the less, I did capture a good "when the talent runs out" moment:

    at about 1.06

  • I know i'm still experimenting with where to put it.

    Camera looks like this:

About the size of a car key.
  • Looks really good for the money...am very tempted to get one! Was looking for something semi-disposable like this.

Do you think it is small enough to be helmet mounted?

Also: Where are you riding in your first clip? I'm guessing the Pentlands but I don't recognise the track.

Just had this reply from the seller.....

The batteries record for around 1.5 hours on a full charge and the camera will store roughly 2GB of data per hour, so a 4GB card will give 2 hours (roughly!) and an 8GB card will do around 4 hours
  • That is a nice looking video, so much i've gone ahead and taken the plunge, at that price can't go wrong. Didn't get the exact one you have, as shipping would kill me coming from England on something like that, so ordered something local!

Can't wait for it to get here.
  • if you do a bit of searching on ebay you can get them for under a fiver,
a good mate down the bike shop got me onto them as he has a couple, one lid mounted and a spare, one i ordered was £.4.35 i think,
as long as you dont mind waiting 10 working days for it to arrive, cant go wrong!

was sorely tempted by the bullet shape ones that have a handle bar mount but for the same spec and an extra £10 seemed a bit silly!!!

Definitely small enough yes. It's tiny! First clip is at Harlaw Resevoir
  • Are these mac compatible or windows 7 for that matter, neither my mac nor my laptop (windows 7) seem to recognize the camera and therefore won't instal any drivers if there are any that is.

    Any thoughts.

    Cheers.

  • I'm looking forward to seeing all the footage from these mini cams, mine arrived today and i'm taking it out tomorrow.
I think i'm gonna strap it to my helmet as I want as little movement as possible and strapping it to the bike its gonna shake a lot.
I hope everyone else will repost there vids in this thread 2.

    Cheers

If anybody else has problems with there computer not recognizing the camera, try a different usb lead, apparently the ones that ship with it can be naff, mine was  In fact, it was cut almost in two (Didn't notice it at first. I tried another lead and it worked first time, to be fare, the guy that sells these on ebay, did offer to send me a replacement lead.
  • mine keeps disconnecting itself from my mac, its most frustrating, I went out with ti helmet mounted and it all seemed great then i got home and it wouldn't transfer the movies across and now they seem to have gone but the camera only has half its memory left :S .
    Very frustrating

  • Mine also had a dodgy USB cable. Luckily it is a standard size and I had a spare that worked.

I had to reformat the memory card after it threw a fit. So far only had one wee test where it seemed to work ok. The files seemed to upset my laptop a fair bit though. Just need to sort out a helmet mount.

Seems that you get what you pay for here! Hopefully it will be ok once I iron out these teething problems.
  • well i've got a few short vids which is nice but i'm going to be trying different mountings, helmet was a little shaky so i'm going to try fork mounted or head tube mounted.

  • Another thing:

The memory card (microSD) that came with mine was not really fast enough to store the data, meaning the video is very stop-start and seemed to have a lot of errors. Have ordered a faster one from amazon which should sort this problem I think.

Going to build my MKII prototype helmet mount this week. Need to draw some plans on the back of an envelope first.

Looking forward to seeing what other people get out of these wee things!

similar to the £12 veho muvi that went around this forum like wildfire a few years back... those are even cheaper now.... still this one looks to be pretty sweet quality...
