Women's bib-shorts - sub £50 - advice needed

Hi

SWMBO has discovered she needs better padded shorts after a painful saddle experience during a long bank holiday weekend ride round the Bowland fells, and finds her current waist-length shorts don't come up far enough at the back to fit well enough with a couple of new jerseys she's bought.

Are women's shorts much different from men's in terms of padding and fit? What do the women on here wear? Women-specific ones or unisex? If there is a noticeable difference (rather than it being a marketing thing) can anyone recommend some women's bib shorts in the sub-£50 price bracket? There seem to be plenty of men's shorts in a similar price range, (ShuttVR, DHB, clearance at Prendas etc) but the choice for women seems much worse.

    I wear Gore and Castelli women's shorts . However, I don't wear bibs as they are an absolute nightmare on a long ride when you need to stop for a wee..... :oops: (always wondered how other women managed with bibs in that respect ???)

    Its that old school changing room training you do, get undressed with no one being able to see you !!

    Yeah, but when it's 3 degrees and you're behind a tree and you've got to get your jersey up and your bibs down.... (Not so bad with a full zip jersey but half zip jersey with pockets stuffed to the hilt and you're desperate and it's freezing cold.... :D .)

    Why sub £50, if it's not a rude question. My experience is they just skimp on the chamois on cheaper shorts.

    I can recommend Giordana Tenax from Ribble. Mrs Carrock has a pair, and at £52 they are cracking value. Good chamois as well.

    Thanks for the replies, the sub-£50 was her budget, probably based off the decent quality of the £30-odd ShuttVR/Wiggle bibshorts I use. She objects to having to pay significantly more just because she's a girl. She's ended up buying some £52 Altura ProGel men's shorts from CycleSurgery after trying on virtually every pair in there (men's and women's alike) and finding they fit the best.
