    Rubbish match, boring as hell!
Would love to pick a premiership 11 to play Barca. Cattermole, Johnson, Davies, Bowyer...
    Messi is class though.
  • trouble is messi's 2nd goal waasnt down to his skil as the ITV commontaters thought bought lack of tackling from abidol, who could of easily took the ball away from him.

The match was played under huge tension and was never going to be a classic. But to suggest that list of agricultural cloggers and hoofers would be get close to Barca?!? They'd be wooped!

This Barca side is arguably the best side ever. The Prem wins on one front though - absence of play acting.

  • yep im a madridsta, the ref was wrong to give pepe a red last night a yellow yes but not a red, the first classico this season barca just outplayed us, their passing can be amazing to watch, but if messi or a couple of players got injured barca havent really got anyone of that statue to rely on, where as madrid have a strong subs bench, roll on next tuesday, i am sure it is going to be a fight to the bitter end, but at least madrid have won one cup this season

Did I catch Strachan right when he said Messi was probably the greatest player ever ? Seems a bit OTT if he did say that - I always thing the greatest have to prove it on the biggest stage - the World Cup - Messi didn't exactly shine there.

it's a hard life if you don't weaken.

Barca certainly have the best players when it comes to going down holding your face and feigning injury trying to get players sent off, as for being the best team ever, that's just media hyperbole. Last year they couldn't even beat Mourinho's ten man Milan, after a Barca player had gone down holding his face again {he wasn't touched} to get a player sent off.

While it is probably OTT, it's easy to forget he's still only 23.

(I could also argue that the Champions League is the biggest stage these days, but that's a different conversation).

I know what you mean one of the tabloids said that hernadez was a better player than Raul, well if Raul was the same age as hendedez now he would run rings around him

    Hernandez's potential is enormous.

As for the observation regarding Messi being the best player he has ever seen... I guess Gordon Strachan didn't have a telly in 1986.

Err what? Copa Del Rey was a different game. Jose has a bit of previous for blaming refs when things don't go his way. Anders Frisk anyone? There were a few decisions that went Madrid's way too. Laws of game being applied would have seen Adebayor sent off for raising his hands, Ramos fell over and got a free kick for holding his head as if injured. When you've got players on both teams bending the rules then the ref is gonna get some wrong.

True, but I don't see Messi pi$$ing his talent up the wall and ending up a bloated drug addict. He's the first player to ever score 50 goals in a season in La Liga. He might surpass them all.

I don't care what he does in his personal life to be honest. Most geniuses are flawed aren't they?

    This.

Champions League is just a devalued European Cup - for my money the World Cup is further ahead in terms of prestige now than when Maradona was playing.

There are a number of players who have done it at club level but not produced the same form at international level - Henry and the Madrid/Man Utd Ronaldo being two recent examples both of whom attracted similar claims of being the best in the world for a season or two and neither of whom will really be remembered as being in the same class as Maradona, Platini, Zidane etc

it's a hard life if you don't weaken.

I thought he was referring to your line about there being no play acting in the premiership. It's not as dramatic but there is more than enough in our league too.

I agree to a point, but it's nothing like as obvious and cringeworthy as in La Liga. Busquets springs to mind.

No, it isn't. It's a far stronger competition, with all of Europe's best teams and almost all of the world's best players. You used to get some fairly weak teams getting to the semi final stage back in the 70s and 80s (Malmo, Dundee United, Lodz, Gothenberg), now it's really tough just to get into the last 16.

Football played properly (i.e. not just hitting the channels) is an art. And. AND. Zinedine Zidane was also known as "The Scientist". So maybe it's a science as well?
