Day 1 proper, straight into the mountains. Depending on how well T Mart climbs today, I reckon the winner will have a decent chance of taking the jersey all the way through.

Bobridge, Phinney, Brutt, Kvachuk, Samoilau in the break.

Raining, too.

Hard to see that break coming back.

6 mins with only 27 KM to go. But a couple of big climbs

    Bobridge to win.

Strange that Basso / LG let them have so much time.

it'll come back if anyone is there to actually win the race. the final climb isn't a real cat 1, but the last two winners on it (in this race) are zulle and contador, so there is plenty of racing left today.

Think there might have been some problems with the timing and/or radio because of the weather.

4 minutes and only the final drag to come?
This race might be over on day 1.
If Bobridge or Brutt have 90 seconds.....
    oops, nasty crash for somebody.

Samoilau and Brutt out on their own - 3'30" with 11 km. Samoilau ftw.

Brutt out on his own now. The gap is barely coming down.

Brutt wins... bunch led home by Cunego, 2 minutes down.

Pretty underwhelming stage. 4 days of not very hard terrain for Brutt to defend in.

    Good ride by Brutt

Liquigas went to pieces. Looks like St Ivans appraisal of his form was right
Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.

Bobridge with a minute and Brutt with over two, look to have a great chance of taking the overall, given that this was the Queen stage.

Looks like a lot of good riders were not up to a reasonable standard or else a super tough stage...

Slight sour taste in the mouth given the investigation into several Katusha riders currently going on, but in the absence of anything concrete against him personally, good on him.

+1 - he always looks damn fast even when he's getting dropped.

Anyone know what happened to Kreuziger? You can see him sat up looking over his shoulder at about 2 mins in on FF's YouTube link before dropping out of the bunch. I thought maybe he'd had a mechanical.............certainly he should have good legs given a high finish at L-B-L and Trentino stage win. Another PTP FAIL!

My girlfirend noticed that too, and she rides but doesn't ride too seriously, but of the 4 break aways, she said Brutt looked quite good and pedalled smoothly. I think he wide shoulders and narrowish hips (but not quite as narrow as Bobrick) helped. He's highish and forward on the bike which looks good.

I thought the scenery was stunning! Wish I was riding on those quiet roads in 20C and sun!

I think Brutt came out of the Russian track system, so they worked really hard on the position. A few years ago in the Giro, Brutt and the Tinkoff guys always looked great on their long breaks.

It was Russia that used to secure the riders to the bike with wire for the 100KM TTT in the Olympics, wasn't it?

...and for the record I HATE Linus and his stinky blanket.

He's flapped his gums a lot, esp in Telekom days about being the second coming of Ulrich, he rubbished Lance (which is ok for us on a forum but less so when you're in the peloton with him and need your legs to cash cheques written by your gobby mouth) and he's amounted to sweet eff eh except for the same stage year after year in the Challenge Mallorca.

Give me more of older guys like Cioni who rides beyond his capabilites. Don't forget he was a contemporary of really savoury types like Frigo, Basso and Rumsas, so whatever he's doing now it's probably 'purer' than it once was.
