Living in London

Hokay, so I'm looking at moving into London to live with my girlfriend. And I don't have a damn clue where to start. Ergo;

How much am I looking at spending on rent, for a not-quite-squatter-level room/1 bedroom apartment? How much for low to mid level?
Are there any good letting agents about? What are their websites?
What general websites can people recommend for finding places to rent?
What area's are good to live in, and where do people get stabbed for sport?
How good do the night buses/trains/tubes tend to be across London?- am a chef, so will probably spend a fair amount of time on them.
Does anyone know of a room for a couple that's available?

Apologies if there's been other topics like this. Did a quick search and nothing obvious appeared.

Cheers.
I'd give my right hand to be ambi-dextrous

    I know something like this came up a while ago in the commuter section. A lot of them are london-based so they were able to help.

    Will your girlfriend not let you live with her?

    Whereabouts? In London village? If so, I'll give it a pass, I couldn't be arsed with travelling there every Tuesday, and besides, I hate the place.

    Thanks for th eoffer though.
