Bike Maintenance Courses

A friend of mine has done a basic bike maintenance course, he's really enthusuastic and wants to lean more. He asked me if I know of any intermediate or advanced courses in the London / Essex area. Does anyone know of anything?
I suggested that if nothing was available he could ask in a LBS if he could spend some time in their workshop learning / watching / helping. Can't see that causing any harm, I'm sure there would be one willing to help him out. He's 50 by the way, not a schoolboy!
