Last year I turned 30 and my mortality is becoming ever more apparent. So I am climbing Mnt Kilimanjaro in January 2012, which is my highest peak so far. Also I will be taking part in Mountain Mayhem 2011 at Eastnor Castle this summer.

It is myself and my teams first 24hr, any hints and tips to get us started?

Go and buy a book on endurance training, there are several on the market and follow a decent training programme.
Now where's that "Get Out of Crash Free Card"

Don't start too hard, the key to a good place in a 24 is consistency, if nothing else it's a bit harsh for your team mates if your first lap is 30 minutes and your second is 90, they'll be waiting a long time in the transition!

Mainly just enjoy yourself - and pray for good weather.

I've done MM twice solo and I think the best advice would be to make sure you eat good foods. Junk is good just before a long ride (I find!). And do lots of long rides, 5-6 hrs.

If you can try and do a 80 - 100 mile ride. Take your time and do it at your own pace, doing this will increase your bike fitness and get you used to being on a bike for a long time.
