I am looking at getting a cycle trainer!

i am curious to why the mats for underneath are about 40-50 quid

i think that is a bit steep.

what alternatives are there and does anyone know of any cheap mats?

hope someone can help

Neal

Neal, i use my Turbo in my Conservatory, which has a tiled floor.
I just use a large rug under it, works fine.

A piece of carpet would work just as well.

Save your money mate and buy something nice for your bike.

As above - I just put a towel under me to catch the sweat (and one over the handlebars/top tube as well, no way I'm paying for a bike thong!)

Some cycling-specific gear you do need...The rest, not so much.

I use a wii fit mat. They keep the trainer from sliding around on a wooden floor and you can pick them up for less than a tenner.

I do the same as a lot here and use a cheapo yoga mat from Tesco. I also dont have one of those expensive things to protect the top of a bike, I just position a towel so that sweat wont get on the bike.

And probably not the coolest of things to wear but I also wear a sweat band on my head and two just above my elbows. This catches the majority of sweat before it has the chance to drip off anyway.
