Catlike Helmet retention not small enough

My girlfriend has picked up a catlike vacuum helmet in a size small (51-54) which fits pretty good apart from the retention system. It seems like it won't ratchet up enough slack to make the helmet completely secure. The helmet otherwise fits good, she certainly couldn't go a size down even if there was a smaller size available. Is there any way of shortening the retention system or even buying a slightly smaller diameter retention aftermarket?

Laydees helmets are meant to be loose to prevent helmet hair.....

So in reality it does NOT fit in contrast to saying it does?

Sounds like a judicious use of a stanley knife and a few zip ties to me to shorten the offending plastic band

Why did she buy a helmet that doesnt fit her ?

Does she wear a buff or anything under the helmet - that makes the head a little bit bigger ? She could try that ?

Sounds a great helmet ... but it is too large if you are at the limit of the ratcheting system and it cannot be tightened up satisfactorily.

Your gf's head is probably in the youth sizes. No good having a helmet that might come off the first sign of a tumble.

Note that helmet sizes often overlap.
