Should alloy wheel rims be totally true/straight, before they are built into a wheel?

    You'd be quite lucky if they were. I guess there are reasonable limits, but it's unlikely they'll be perfect.

    I haven't built loads of wheels and don't really remember checking them to see IF they were straight or round. I only checked for obvious defects. They all ended up round when I was done and have been pretty much problem free, so I figure that IF they appear
    sort of unround or unstraight before the build that, in the end, they come out ok.

    How out of true are the rims? If more than 10mm out, you're best to true up the wheel to get the rim true, then slacken off the spokes and retension in order to get it even - I've done this with really bent rims that have been 'baggage handled'
    Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

    Thanks for the replies.
    It's the first time I've bought rims to get built into wheels, so wasn't sure what to expect.
    They aren't too bad, so I'm happy.
