So finally getting around to buying new wheels. Looking at the XC717 Pair from Merlin Cycles

My current discs are centrelock and im pretty sure these hope hubs are 6 bolt? Should I stick to Shimano discs to go with my Deore brakes? Or will any 6 bolt disc do?

Any suggestions from Merlin?

any 6 bolt should fit as long as the diameter is correct for your brakes

    I'll swap you a 6 bolt rotor for a centre lock if 160 ?

Any six bolt rotors will do but if Batman had a mountain bike, he would use Shimano RT76 rotors.

On-One and Chain Reaction have them at different prices for different sizes. Cherry-pick the ones you want to get the best price.

They are indeed 160 but I wanna keep the rotors for my original wheels since I plan on having road tyres on those and nobblys on the new ones :D

Don't get the Mavic rims, incredibly out dated. Get Stan's Crests, lighter, wider, tougher. You'll find Hoops on Crests for similar money.

Then yes, get whatever rotor you want!

Damn you! Just when I finally pick something :P

Doesn't seem to be anything Stan's related on Merlins or Chain reaction? Anywhere I should be looking for these wheels with Crests?

That's weird, they've gone from many of the big websites. I wonder if there's about to be a shake up on Stan's rims they've not announced, as the Podium has suddenly got hard to come by, and Wiggle had them on Clearance.

Swinnertons were often cheap, may be worth phoning them, I honestly wouldn't buy the Mavics any more. YMMV of course.

Which hubs should I try to stick to if I look for wheels elsewhere?

^^^ what they say...... but beware of alloy carrier (floating disc) rotors as it hasd been said that the thicker carrier can interfere with some calipers.
