Old Saracen Tour 2007

I have a Saracen Tour that I bought a few years ago for 180 quid (had way more spent on it since, puncture fixing etc). However I now have new shiny bike and was wondering what to do with it.

It's current state is:

-Broken Left Shifter
-Broken Gear Cable for left shifter, including sleeve
-Bent outer chain ring

It's limitations are:

7 spd shimano altus
sealed cartidge bb

My thoughts are that I:

a) buy some parts to fix it up, although paying shifters look expensive on ebay, then use it as a commuter, about 10% of the cost of my new bike
b)forget about doing it up and make it into a spinning bike for my turbo

My tools are quite minimal I have some adjustable wrenches, allen keys and screwdrivers but no bike specific tools.

Anyone got any suggestions?

    If it's a commuter would you need the left shifter at all? Your whole commute might be done in the outer chainring if it's not hilly. Just use the left shifter for it's brake and remove the front derailleur.

    As for the chainring you can get whole new cranksets for as little as 15 quid, not exactly lightweight but they'd do for a commuter. But it might be worth just unbolting the old one and flattening it!

    Ha yes you are completely right. Will give it a major, clean no idea why I decided to overcomplicated things.
